A MESSAGE OF GOOD NEWS...

“BEHOLD, THE LAMB OF GOD, WHO TAKES AWAY THE SIN OF THE WORLD!” John 1 v29

We are living in strange and changeable times during this global pandemic. Yet it is great to see the familiar sight of lambs out in the fields; a picture of freedom and new life.

In Exodus, we read of how lambs played a crucial role in the deliverance of God’s people out of bondage and death in Egypt. The final plague of death, of the firstborn males, in each home, was overcome by the sacrificial death of a lamb. It had to be their best lamb, a lamb without blemish. The blood was sprinkled on the door posts of the house; “When I see the blood, I will pass over you.” Exodus 12 v13

The time of the Passover Celebration was near (John 2 v13), when John the Baptist saw Jesus and uniquely proclaimed: “Behold the Lamb of God.”

Jesus Christ is our Passover Lamb (1 Corinthians 5 v7). At his death, his bones, like a Passover Lamb were not broken (John 19 v33, Exodus 12 v46). His sacrifice enables us to be set free from the bondage of sin and death to enjoy abundant and eternal life.

He is the lamb without blemish. Only Jesus is pure enough to take away sin. He bore our sins in his own body on the tree (1 Peter 2 v24). God’s wrath and judgement were satisfied by the precious blood of the Lamb of God. Only the sacrifice of Jesus, once and for all, can save us.

This is Good News for the whole world: everyone who is under the blood is saved. But it is also a warning: the only way to escape the wrath and judgment of God is by looking to Jesus the Lamb of God and trusting in his blood to save you. There is no other way.

Have you confessed your sins to God? Have you asked Jesus to take away your sins? Are you resting in his once and for all sacrifice for your sins?

By faith, keep looking to the Lamb of God and to glorious times ahead when all his people will sing; “Worthy is the Lamb that was slain.” Revelation 5 v12
